Mongolia's tourist season is not only summer. Winter Mongolia has many interesting events.
There are events such as a sleeper train trip to the desert town of Sainshand, first sunrise viewing, Mongolian New Year events, the Eagle Festival, the Ice Festival at Lake Khuvsgul, the Camel Festival in the South Gobi, the Kazakh Eagle Festival, dog sledding and skiing.
Peoples all over the world have their own special events and festivals. The festival that the Mongolian people, nomads living on the Central Asian steppe, celebrate on a grand scale is Tsagaan Sar (New Year). Let's celebrate New Year's Eve and the Lunar New Year in the Mongolian way together with a nomad family. See winter Mongolian wrestling, first sunrise viewing, a dog sledding experience and more.
Stay on the shore of Lake Khuvsgul. Enjoy the ice festival. Horse sleigh and dog sled experience, and a visit to the ger of nomads who keep reindeer. Also visit a bar in a ger made of ice. A fashion show of the Mongolian traditional costume, the deel, is also held. A folk music concert of Khuvsgul Province. And the International Skating Marathon too!
The purpose of the Camel Festival is to increase the number of camels, protect them, and increase products made from camel milk and hair. It also helps develop winter tourism and support the lives of local nomads. The number of camels decreases every year. Since 1997 the Camel Festival has been held to increase the camel population, and as a result the number of camels has been increasing.
See three events that can only be seen in Mongolian winter in 10 days. Take part in the Ice Festival and skating marathon at Lake Khuvsgul in northern Mongolia. After watching the Kazakh Eagle Festival at Chinggis Khaan Village outside Ulaanbaatar, enjoy winter Mongolia while watching the 1000 Camel Festival in the South Gobi.
