Mongolia World Heritage Tours

Sightseeing Information Optional Tours Package Tours

Mongolia, in the interior of the Eurasian continent and with deep ties to Japan. In this country surrounded by desert and grand steppe, four areas are designated World Heritage Sites. In great nature you can try horse riding, stay in a ger and eat mutton, enjoying experiences that can't be had elsewhere. These are the World Heritage Sites of Mongolia. If you are considering a Mongolia World Heritage tour, please feel free to contact Shine Zuuch Travel. We support Mongolia World Heritage tours.

Cultural Landscape of the Orkhon Valley

The Orkhon Valley is a valley spreading along both banks of the Orkhon River in central Mongolia, about 360 km west of the capital Ulaanbaatar. Its cultural landscape was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as exemplifying the nomadic traditions cultivated over more than 2,000 years. For centuries the Orkhon Valley was regarded as the seat of the kings of the steppe. It appears in history through the "Orkhon inscriptions" erected in this valley in the 8th century by the Turkic Bilge Khagan. The mountains forming the valley were revered as the axis of the world in Tengri worship, and among them Mount Otgontenger was especially venerated. In the Orkhon Valley remain the Orkhon inscriptions, the Khar Balgas ruins, the ruins of Chinggis Khaan's capital Karakorum, Erdene Zuu Monastery and more.See the Orkhon Valley Tours

Petroglyphic Complexes of the Mongolian Altai

The World Heritage Petroglyphic Complexes of the Mongolian Altai cover three groups of rock art sites in Bayan-Ulgii Province in the Mongolian Altai mountains. They were made over about 12,000 years, from around 11,000 BC to around the 9th century AD, and many rock carvings remain that convey the way of life and surrounding environment of Northern Asia in each period. There are also hundreds of mounds linked to funeral culture, but most of the sites are rock art. The rock art of the end of the Pleistocene shows large animals such as mammoths, aurochs, moose and ostriches, and with the Holocene not only prey animals but also hunters are depicted. Climate change from the Pleistocene to the early Bronze Age can also be read, and the rock art of the period seen as late Bronze Age to Iron Age depicts nomadic life using horses. Works of the Turkic peoples of the 7th to 9th centuries depict armed horsemen and the like.See the Altai Mountains Tours

Uvs Nuur Basin

The Uvs Nuur Basin is a World Heritage Site spanning Mongolia and Russia, and Lake Uvs is the largest lake in Mongolia. In 1993 Russia established eight nature reserves, and in 2003 Mongolia established four protected areas including the area around the Tes River, and as a result these 12 protected areas were inscribed as a World Heritage Site.Lake Uvs in the Uvs Nuur Basin is salty and shallow, a remnant of when sea spread over this area thousands of years ago. Uvs Nuur is an area in Eurasia where natural steppe is well preserved, and at the same time a place where the northernmost desert in the world and the southernmost tundra in the world coexist. Because the basin forms a climatic and geographic boundary between Siberia and Central Asia, temperatures are extreme, 47 degrees in summer and −58 degrees in winter, and 41 species of mammals such as the endangered snow leopard, argali and Asian ibex, and 173 species of birds live there. In addition, about 40,000 Scythian and Turkic sites have been found, but it is inscribed as natural heritage.

Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and Its Surrounding Sacred Landscape

The Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain and its surrounding sacred landscape is a Mongolian World Cultural Heritage Site newly inscribed in 2015 at the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Bonn, Germany.Burkhan Khaldun is a sacred place of the origin of the Mongol people and is also said to be Chinggis Khaan's homeland and burial place. The mountain name "Burkhan" is the Mongolized form of a word that originally meant the Buddha, meaning "Buddha" and "god".Also, "Khaldun" generally means "lone peak" in Mongolian, but in Daur it is said to mean "mountain covered with poplar thickets".
