Highlights and Information

The Khentii Mountains, part of the huge 1.2 million hectares spreading across the northwest corner of the strictly protected Khan Khentii area, give the region its name.
The Kherlen and Onon Rivers mentioned in the Mongolian history book, "The Travels of Marco Polo" (which tells of Chinggis Khaan's life), flow here. Khentii, the historic heartland of Mongolia, is famous as the source of Mongolia's fastest horses.
Dadal lies in the north of Khentii Province, about 585 km from the capital Ulaanbaatar. Dadal soum is said to be the birthplace of "Chinggis Khaan". In the center of Dadal soum, at 800 m above sea level, is a mineral spring called Lake Gurvan. There in 1962 a Chinggis Khaan memorial was first erected. To its north, a small hill at 900 m above sea level located in a pine forest is called "Delun Boldog", said to be where Chinggis Khaan was born. West of Lake Gurvan Camp, the spring that flows north into the Balj River is called "Khajuu Bulag" and is said to be Chinggis Khaan's drinking water.
Buryats live in Dadal soum, and if you visit their gers you can experience their distinctive living customs. Buryat bread in particular is superb. If you go to Dadal, fishing is recommended. With luck you may catch a taimen, the world's longest freshwater fish at 1.5 m!

Mungun Morit (Silver Horse) Camp is in a lush green nature reserve area in the east of Central Province, about 230 km from the capital Ulaanbaatar. The scenery around Mungun Morit Camp, standing on a steppe between mountains to the north and south, is splendid, just what you imagine of the Mongolian grand steppe. From June to August in summer, several kinds of flowers bloom profusely around the camp, offering even more wonderful scenery.
