Highlights and Information

A Trip to Hustai National Park and Terelj National Park! With Horse Riding and Dog Sledding Experience! 5 Days
Hustai National Park

The world's last wild horses, the "takhi" or Przewalski's horse, can be seen in this area. About 50 kinds of mammals live here, including the wild horse takhi, deer, gazelles and marmots. The Hustai reserve is located about 130 km from Ulaanbaatar. From 1992, 15 wild takhi horses were brought to Mongolia from the Netherlands. Since wild horses were returned to Mongolia from European zoos (the Netherlands and Switzerland) in 1995, the population has grown to 2,000. The takhi once lived freely in tens of thousands on the Mongolian steppe, but became extinct around the beginning of the 20th century. After the takhi returned to their Mongolian homeland after 100 years, their numbers have steadily grown, and now more than 300 takhi in total live freely in their ancestors' homeland in the Hustai reserve in Central Province and in Govi-Altai Province.
The tourist camp located in the Hustai reserve has a museum with information about bringing the wild horse takhi back to their Mongolian homeland. The museum also displays information about the animals and plants living in the Hustai reserve.

Terelj National Park

Terelj, a scenic place that was a volcanic zone in ancient times. On the way from Ulaanbaatar to Terelj National Park (70 km) by private car (about 1 hour), you can see interesting shapes of rocks and stones, and among them please see Turtle Rock. It was developed as a national park in the 1960s and protected as a national park around 1994. Surrounded on all sides by mountains and forests, with clear streams running, it is also the quietest preserve closest to Ulaanbaatar. In beautiful nature you can enjoy horse riding trekking and hiking, mountain walking, interact with nomads living on the grand steppe while tending livestock, taste handmade dairy products, and even climb Turtle Rock. It lies at an altitude of 1,600 m above sea level. Within the park live 250 species of birds and protected animals such as elk, bears and butterflies. Some ger camps are equipped with parking and electricity, and it has also been developed as a tourist destination.
