Lake Khuvsgul lies in northwestern Mongolia at the foot of the Eastern Sayan Mountains, near the Russian border. At an elevation of 1,645 meters above sea level, it is long from north to south, 136 km long, 36.5 km wide, with a maximum depth of 262 meters. Lake Khuvsgul, close to the Russian border, is surrounded by coniferous forest, and its natural scenery is like that of Switzerland in the European Alps or the forests of Northern Europe. It is the second largest lake in Mongolia and the deepest. Near Lake Khuvsgul live the reindeer-herding "Tsaatan". Tsaatan means "people who have reindeer". Their dwellings are portable but, unlike the "ger", are conical. The river flowing out of the lake continues to Lake Baikal in Russia. You can enjoy plant observation, trekking, horse riding, fishing and more. |
*The above itinerary and times may change locally depending on weather and traffic congestion on the day. In that case, please follow the instructions of the local staff. We appreciate your understanding.
*Meals may become box lunches, and the hotel / restaurant / ger may each be changed.
