Tent Camping Tour Information

A summer-only horse trekking course recommended for repeat visitors. You travel across the steppe with your horses and tents. A seasonal course. Like the nomadic horsemen of that era, you travel around the grassland and aim for the old capital Karakorum by horse trekking. Follow the long history in the spirit of the horse-riding nomads. Fully enjoy Mongolia's vast steppe and nature.

From Burd, the gateway to Karakorum, the old capital of the Mongol Empire, aim for the Karakorum ruins by horse trekking. Following the steppe where the horsemen once galloped, you advance with the Mongolian wind on your face. Feeling eternal time and space, you may find that you have become one of the horse-riding nomads yourself! Everyone cooperates at dinner too. Enjoy after-dinner fun together. At night, prepare for tomorrow while listening to the lullaby of the starry sky. Let's do our best again tomorrow!
The destination of the horse trekking. Suddenly you see white stupas spreading across the steppe ahead. Let's go to the end together with our horses! The sense of achievement on reaching the Karakorum ruins across the sea of grass may be a gift from the horse-riding nomads, arriving from distant time and space, given only to those who have achieved it. Following the old capital Karakorum and Erdene Zuu on your own feet, you will create a precious memory.

Karakorum Ruins

Mongolia has many highlights besides the steppe. In the cultural landscape area known as the Orkhon Valley, many ruins and historic sites remain, and the most famous is the Karakorum ruins. When the Mongol and Turkic nomads who have long lived in Mongolia founded their states, they chose the Orkhon River basin for their capitals. Chinggis Khaan also ordered the capital of the Mongol Empire to be established there. By his order, the city of Karakorum was built in 1235, and it is famous for having been, for a time, the center of the world. Erdene Zuu of the Karakorum ruins is one of Mongolia's World Heritage Sites. Suddenly appearing in the steppe, the ruins consist of 108 striking white stupas and outer walls surrounding the Buddhist temple, a group of monasteries with a long history in Mongolia. A little walk from the ruins is Turtle Rock, and the site where the "Karakorum History Museum" was built by a joint project of the Mongolian Cabinet and JICA with Japanese ODA.

Burd Steppe

Burd (Elsen Tasarkhai Desert) is located 280 km west of Ulaanbaatar and is the central point of Mongolia. It is a place of superb scenery where grassland, rocky mountains, streams, lakes and ponds lie together. Burd, with its typically Mongolian steppe rich in flowers, is the gateway for sightseeing. The nomads have long worshipped Mount Khugnu Khan in the north of Burd, which is now protected as a "protected area" and is home to rare animals and plants.
The magnificent hills, as if laid with a carpet, form a grand panorama like a landscape painting. It is also famous as a producer of Mongolian horses. On the way from Ulaanbaatar to Burd, the Tuul River flows past endless steppe, beautiful flower fields and herds of sheep, cattle and horses, with plenty of photo opportunities. The Burd camp is also the base camp for Karakorum, the old capital of the Mongol Empire.
